The Philipsburgh Manor
Tarrytown, New York
The Philipsburgh Manor

On the NY State Thruway (Interstate 287/87) cross the Hudson River by way of the Tappan Zee Bridge. Take the first exit after the toll and go north on Route 9. It will take you a short distance through the town of Tarrytown. About half way through the town you will come to a split in the road where an old church and cemetery stands. Pass the church and continue to the north end of town. Just a short distance from the church, you will find on the left side of the road a visitor center for the Old Philipsburg Manor. Park in the parking lot and enter the gift shop to buy a ticket for the tour. You will be glad you did.

This is the restored homestead of the Philipsburg Estate. The main house is where our ancestors arrived to pay their rent each year. What a thrill it was to me to walk through the low doorways and tiny rooms of the house and to hear that

"Where you are standing is the exact spot where each tenant stood to pay his rent each year as Mr. Philpse recorded the transaction at this very same desk."
